There are good ideas.
There are bad ideas.
And then there are the ideas that start as a joke… and get just a little too close to making sense.
Every year at BuiltRight Industries, April Fools gives us the freedom to explore that third category. It’s where overbuilt meets unnecessary, where modularity goes too far, and where we ask the question:
“What if we treated everything like it needed a mounting solution?”
This year, that question landed squarely on your hips.
Truck organization has come a long way.
Bedside racks. MOLLE panels. Seatback storage. Every square inch of your truck can now be optimized, dialed, and purpose-built. But what about the one place you actually need access the most?
Your person.
Not your center console. Not your glove box. Not the bed of your truck. Right there, within arm’s reach at all times.
And that’s where things started to spiral.
The BuiltRight Fanny Panel is exactly what it sounds like - a fully modular, hip-mounted MOLLE tech plate designed to carry whatever you need, exactly where you need it.
Constructed (of course) from laser-cut steel and finished in a durable powder coat, the Fanny Panel mounts securely at your waist and features full MOLLE compatibility, integrated mounting slots, and articulating accessory arms for maximum adjustability.
It’s overbuilt. It’s unnecessary.
And somehow… it works.
The first real-world test of the Fanny Panel came in what we’re calling Dad Mode.
Because if you’ve ever left the house with kids, you know the drill. Snacks, toys, random objects that were absolutely essential five minutes ago and will be forgotten ten minutes from now. We're dads, we know how it goes.
Instead of overloading pockets or carrying a bag, the Fanny Panel becomes a wearable command center.
A few quick-access mounts later, and suddenly you’ve got:
Wipes and snacks secured and within reach
Small toys clipped in place
Sunglasses mounted and protected
The ability to respond instantly to whatever crisis unfolds next
It’s equal parts ridiculous and effective.
And if we’re being honest, it might actually be more efficient than anything else we’ve come up with.
Then things escalated.
Because if you’re already wearing a modular gear platform… why stop at snacks?
Enter Grill Mode.
Mounted directly to the Fanny Panel:
Your beverage of choice, securely held and always accessible
BBQ sauce locked in place like it’s mission-critical equipment
Grill tools mounted on articulating arms for quick access
A phone mount for recipes, timers, "the big game", or pretending you’re not overcooking everything
It turns the act of grilling into something that feels a little more tactical than it needs to be.
No more setting things down. No more searching for tools. Everything is exactly where you expect it to be.
Is it overkill?
Absolutely.
Is it kind of awesome?
Also yes.

And then there’s the configuration that probably shouldn’t exist, but does anyway.
Stimulant Mode.
Because if the Fanny Panel is about accessibility, then it doesn’t really judge what you choose to mount to it.
Quick-access storage for nicotine pouches. A secure mount for a pack. A beverage holder doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Everything organized. Everything within reach.
It’s not a use case we’re officially endorsing… but it’s one the system handles with zero compromise.
That’s the thing about building a truly modular platform.
It adapts to the user, not the other way around.

Like most of our April Fools ideas, the Fanny Panel started as a laugh.
But the more we explored it, the more it followed the same rules as our real products.
It solves a problem - access
It maximizes unused space - your waistline
It integrates seamlessly with existing mounting solutions
It’s built to the same standards as everything else we make
That’s what makes it feel believable.
Because underneath the humor, the design actually holds up.
At its core, the Fanny Panel is just an extension of what BuiltRight has always done.
Take overlooked space.
Apply thoughtful engineering.
Create a system that makes sense… even if it maybe shouldn’t.
This just happens to be the first time we’ve applied that thinking to something you wear instead of something you drive.
That’s always the question.
And the answer is usually the same.
Probably not.
But also… never say never.
Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from doing this every year, it’s that the best ideas often come from the places you least expect.
Even if that place is clipped to your belt.
April Fools is our chance to push boundaries, explore ideas without limits, and show a different side of what BuiltRight can be.
The Fanny Panel is exactly that.
A product that makes you laugh, makes you think, and maybe - just maybe - makes a little more sense than it should.
So if you find yourself wishing you had one… you’re not alone.
We’ve been having the same conversation.
