MOLLE this, MOLLE that.
"Look at our Hexagonal MOLLE!"
"Here's Our MOLLE PANEL but its actually just sick flames cut out of a sheet of aluminum!"
"This MOLLE is DIFFERENT"
--Yeah, its different because its.... not.. actually MOLLE.....
Well then, What is MOLLE?
There is far too much use of the term 'MOLLE' in the industry when it is in fact NOT MOLLE. Its misleading, and unfair to the customer, and I'm here to clear the air.
There’s a lot to say about MOLLE, but let’s start with the basics. The Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment ("MOLLE" yes, it actually stands for something) system was developed in 1997 by Natick Labs and other government contractors as a modular way for soldiers to carry their gear. It’s designed to work with PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System) webbing—a 1.5” center-to-center grid spaced 1” apart. If you’re ever confused, just remember: PALS refers to the webbing, and MOLLE is the gear that attaches to that webbing. So, if something has PALS webbing, it’s MOLLE-compatible.
After 9/11, MOLLE became widespread in the U.S. military, and not long after, outdoor enthusiasts caught on. Now you’ll see MOLLE/PALS on everything from day packs and first-aid kits to travel organizers.
This picture below? THATS MOLLE.
So who is BuiltRight?
BuiltRight Industries got its start in 2016, inspired by classic MOLLE/PALS but with a fresh twist from our founder, Matt Beenen. The idea hit him after opening his truck bed to load pallets of parts for our first ever product, the rear seat release, and seeing camping gear strewn all over—plus a ton of wasted space above the wheel wells. That’s how our truck bed MOLLE panels came to life.
We’re actually the original inventor of MOLLE-compatible panel systems for truck beds. Our patented “block and slot” grid pattern (click the link to read about that) goes beyond the standard rectangular cutouts, offering horizontal slots that can hold all kinds of clamps, brackets, mounts, you name it. Basically, we’ve taken MOLLE and made it even more user-friendly.
Matt’s a Raptor owner, so he started with F-150 panels. As word got out, we branched into RAM, GMC, Chevrolet, Toyota, and Jeep. Today, we offer a ton of products—enough to handle all your truck organization needs.
Why You Need BuiltRight MOLLE Panels?
Standard storage options are bulky, inefficient, and might not cut it for everyone. Wasted space in your truck bed doesn't help anyone!
With our model specific MOLLE-compatible panels, you can maximize your vehicle’s capabilities. We take extra care to be intentional about the design, contouring closely to your truck bed features, typically using factory mounting points, so installing a bedside rack system is straightforward—and it keeps your gear organized, accessible, and secure. We also offer a bunch of mounts for easy attachment of your gear. And because our panels follow the PALS measurements, they’ll work seamlessly with all the (real) MOLLE gear you already have.
The Bottom Line? Plenty of companies out there have similar ideas, but no one knows MOLLE like we do!
