United StatesThis and $0.20 in Nickels will make your center console more useful
First things first, watch the video to understand what needs to be done and if you happen to own a Ford Raptor, you’ll know everything you need to know (not sure if there are similar videos for other brands of trucks). The install and mounting process for the Molle panel is easy and pain free as long as you take your time positioning the panel where you want it and marking the screw/bolt locations prior to drilling the holes (follow Matt’s advice and do the positioning two at a time so you can get the locations just right). About the $0.20 in Nickels comment in the title; if you watched the video, you’ll here Matt comment about how the springs on the F-150 console lid are weak and you’ll need to preload them to overcome the additional weight of the panel. So putting four Nickels under the springs will help overcome that problem, it won’t solve it but it definitely helps. I did a couple of things differently than Matt did in the video to get the Nickels in place. First, I pulled both trim pieces that you’ll be removing rather than just the lower one. Probably doesn’t make a big difference but I think it made access easier. Second, rather than using a screwdriver to try and pry the springs open, I used a small Vise-Grip to grab the spring and open them. It’s easier and safer to do it that way. Other than those changes, the instructional video is spot on and I now have a more useful center console in my truck.
